Chai Tea – Produced by Spice Dunes 

 

What is sticky masala chai tea?

Masala means ‘spice/spiced,’ Chai means ‘tea.’

It is a lovingly curated mix of black tea, lightly toasted and crushed whole spices, and fresh ginger held together by raw New Zealand honey.

Yum!

We use honey provided to us by local beekeepers, raw and unadulterated, as it should be. The specific type of honey can vary from batch to batch, depending on what is available at the time. We always let you know which honey has been used for your chai, so you can attribute any slight flavour variances to the different bees or flowers which contributed to each batch!
We reckon this element of the unknown adds to the excitement.

We also use quality Ceylon tea, and spices from our local Indian spice dealer.

Really, you must chai it, then you can chaime in with all the other chai lovers! 😉

For the sake of our beloved and only planet, we use packaging that will break down in your home compost. We are working towards being a carbon positive business, and we have plans to do good for the earth and its inhabitants with a percentage of every dollar we make.

 

-Brewing at home- Choose from one of these two options-

 

TRADITIONAL INDIAN STYLE BREW- (Hearty, deep flavour extraction)

  • ½ cup milk of choice (see milk notes below)
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 teaspoon chai mix (more or less, to taste, and depending on milk choice)
  1. Add all ingredients to a small pot
  2. Bring to boil slowly on medium heat, stirring often
  3. Remove from heat, sit for 30 seconds or so
  4. Bring to boil again
  5. Remove from heat, sit for a few minutes to fully soak up all the sweet spicy flavour
  6. Strain and sip away

 

Notes:

  • Some milks/milk alternatives don’t like to be boiled…
    • Ones that do: Oat, cashew, cow
    • Ones that don’t: Soy, almond, coconut
  • Cow milk requires more chai mix per serve, so be sure to have a play around to find the levels that work best for you!

 

 

PLANT MILK/STEEP STYLE BREW-

  • 1/3 cup boiling water
  • 2/3 cup warmed milk
  • 1 tablespoon chai mix (more or less, to taste)
  1. Pour boiling water over chai mix
  2. Steep for 3 – 5 minutes (the longer the better!)
  3. Add warmed milk
  4. Steep for another few minutes if you like..
  5. Strain, sip, enjoy.
